DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Thomas Earnshaw, London, fusee pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, 59mm, pair cases, inner bearing Chester hallmarks for 1807, incuse "T.H" marking for casemaker Thomas Helsby, outer bearing London hallmarks for 1807, "J.P" marking in cameo for casemaker John Palmer, KWKS, fuly capped Earnshaw spring detent escapement, bi-metallic Z balance with trapezoidal weights, diamond endstones, gilt mvt with foliate engraved balance cock, s#867. Comes with an associated wooden box with recess for watch and for a key which is present. CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticks with a twist but stopping frequently with periods of ticking ranging from several seconds to several minutes and seemingly influenced by positioning of watch, overhaul recommended, detent is believed likely to have been replaced as evidenced by filing to edge of main plate adjacent foot of detent and by empty hole with surrounding witness mark adjacent screw position of the present detent's foot, otherwise excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some short scratches and small abrasions adjacent plate pin positions, some mild fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere; dial with some long hls; excellent hands; inner case shows little wear, numerous scratches around lower portion from slipped openings, no dents or dings; domed glass bull's-eye crystal with small finish imperfection near center, much larger finish imperfection toward lower right; outer case shows little wear, moderate patina with some unevenness, no dents or dings, button latch good.
